Just a little over view of what this blog is about. Though this blog is a requirement for my 3D Product design class, it will also allow me to track my progress, remind myself where i was going or what my initial ideas were and might even now and then prove useful, kind of like a third party perspective.
Fair warning there will be days i will be uploading and rambling on and on, and then there will be weeks you don't hear a peep out of me, progress wise.
The brief itself (to put it simply) requires me to create a set of cutlery, choosing one of four themes, all interesting yet entirely different..
MY CHOICE: Improving the experience for kids.
rethink the issues associated with dining for kids and design a set of cutlery that encourages them to eat and to manage their food better.
I don't know about you all but when i read that project outline and the attached examples, i got a strong image of small children, ie.that toddler like age group that are only beginning to learn to eat on their own.
From there i began to brainstorm (notice the scribbles on the scanned page to follow)
Ideas like age group, gender, likes, dislikes, all those things began to fill the page, allowing me to get a better insight into small children an their eating habits.
once the initial boxes had been thought through and checked i went further, thinking what do they eat? is it easy to eat with common everyday cutlery? is there any special requirements that would be needed, or anything that could be done to improve the eating experience? would a different moulding, shape or size make any difference?
once id asked myself these ideas, i went on to do a little research. like whats out there? anything specific for kids? anything more than a novelty item? and if so is it attractive and accessible is it?
(see attached screen shots and photos gathered from various sites)
now ive started a little further resaerch i believe i have a good understanding at this point, how small children eat and thier basic eating habits and expierence.
and im begining to start sketches and initial ideas. collaborating novelty items (ie kids tv shows and popular objects) with different shapes and sizes, alot of expierementing basically.
(ive attached a few scans of the initial sketches. good luck trying to understand them)
Claire.
